My mother used to use drawstring bags in festive Christmas fabrics. She made them in a variety of sizes and just stuck our gifts in those. It saved a LOT of paper.

It’s hard for me to quit wrapping paper, but I’m trying. And the fabric idea was great.
What about cutting up Trader Joe’s bags, and having the plain, plain brown inside of the bag face out when you wrap?

Hi Carla, We always do a white elephant party at work and it's a ridiculous amount of fun. Way better than giving individual gifts. When you have to buy gifts for a lot of people, things get out of hand really quickly. Great post! @Vered – I know some families still give their children TONS of gifts. When my mother was young, they “only” received one on Christmas Day. Its good to go back to the basics on this one.

I love your idea about wrapping with scrap fabric. Once I wrap the gift with a gift. I was giving a sweater and I use the sweater to wrap up the other stuff that went along with the gift. Good tips!
